Another Trip Around the Sun

Birthday week…. lots of ways to look at it.  I know a lot of you ignore the number or dread the passing of time.  Me?  I love my birthday!  Always have.  Now some years where the number was more significant I might have felt a twinge of longing for younger years, but it normally just passed and I was left enjoying the day.

Ask my family, I really get into it.  As a child I would get so excited!  I am one of the lucky people, my birthday is in the 2nd half of October…that’s right!!!  Halloween birthday parties!!!  Seriously this was the best time of year for a birthday!  Constant supply of candy, super fun decorations, and Christmas hasn’t happened so wallets were a bit more open!  My family always did a great job of celebrating our birthdays.  It was your day and by golly we were going to celebrate you!

The party side of it has diminished a bit as I have gotten older but the joy of the day has not.  There has been a tiny glitch in my Happy Birthday to ME celebration of late though…. I married a man whose family really didn’t get into the birthday thing!

What?!

But it’s your day?!

Nope.

I have successfully brainwashed him a bit.  He understands that it is a big deal to me even though it isn’t to him.  I try and still make his day super special and I think he secretly now enjoys it.  My husband’s birthday is 10 days before mine.   I set the precedent…. show him how it’s done.  I just know one day on my birthday I will wake up to balloons, streamers and breakfast in bed…. I sure hope he is reading his.   Wink wink…

I do need to get a bit serious now.  At my new age I can do that!

I have learned a lot this past year, and I would be remiss to not share some of my newly found wisdom.  Take it or leave it, it’s all good.

1.  STAY POSITIVE!  I know this is hard, but really what is the alternative?  I wouldn’t say this is the gratitude part of life as much as realizing that not everything is bad, no one is out to get you, and for the love of all that is right stop taking yourself so seriously!!!!!

2.  LIFE IS SHORT!  You have heard this, but we need to embrace it!  We are so blessed to be alive.  So tomorrow laugh, skip, sing, dance, tell someone to have an amazing day.

3.  READ A BOOK!  Weird one right? But I think that there is something so powerful in picking up a book.  Yes, an actual book.  Not your kindle or laptop, not the computer or audio books.  Pick up a book, flip the pages and fall in love with storytelling again.

Well, I’m outta here but thank you again for stopping by, I don’t know what this next trip around the sun will hold for any of us, but I plan to enjoy the ride and no worries, I will be sharing the ride with you right here.

Happy Birthday to ME!

Welcome!!!

Welcome to So Very Vicki!!  I am so excited to start this journey with you and I know that we will have a blast!  You may know me from a particular chapter in our lives or this is our first introduction, either way I’m honored to share my thoughts, ideas, experiences, and whatever else might fall out of my brain!

I would like to start by taking a few minutes to officially introduce myself to you, seriously you might find this the most exciting part of the post and I will totally understand if you come back to read it again and again.

The most important highlights are that I am a Texan, I love my Texas Longhorns, and have had the wonderful opportunity to live in both Texas and Alabama.  Why Alabama?  My husband Bryant is from this lovely state and we spent 6 years there.  He has three children and from there we have 7 adorable grandchildren (#8 is on the way!).  I am very lucky that at 46 I get to watch these wonderful humans grow and see each of their journeys develop.  I have an older brother and sister, both will be anxiously looking at this blog waiting for particular stories to appear….and oh yes my dear siblings your day is coming.  My mother lives here in the same city as we do, my dad passed away 11 years ago.  My “kids” consist of the king of the castle Maine Coon cat named Dumbledore, our kind and loving Standard Poodle (Spoo) name Claire and our highly energetic and always on guard Spoo Toula.

The stories and adventures just regarding the above group should fill these pages for a while, but I also am looking forward to sharing with you some insights on cooking, gardening, getting older, getting healthy and so much more.  Will there be some current headlines mentioned here?  Probably.  I promise it will not be heavy and will only be a mention.  I think we all have had our full of politics, negative news and angry people.  That is NOT what this place will be about.

Will the writing always be perfect?  NO.  Be patient with me, I haven’t written in this form in a while.

Will I try to always bring value, laughter and joy?  YES

This blog is a journey like everything else.  All of it will evolve into something I hope you look forward to reading and maybe even sharing.

A few ground rules.  My goal is to have a new posting up every Monday morning and possibly an occasional post for a special event.   If you choose to post a comment I would be thrilled, keep it friendly. Simple.

I hope to see you all next week!

I promise more humor next time….this was to introduce you to me…which is kinda funny…
